The Harada Long-Term Goal Setting Sheet
In my previous article, I talked about a book I read that laid out the Harada Method and its key components. I highly recommend that you read that article before reading this one.
A core module of the Harada Method is the “Long-Term Goal Setting Sheet.” This sheet is a monster of a goal-setting exercise - it’s extremely granular and detailed, and after completing it, your chances of hitting your goals will be dramatically increased.
Let’s take a look at each part of the sheet:
Section 1
Name
Today’s Date
Goal Achievement Date (deadline or when you want to achieve your goal)
Daily Service to Others (how can you serve others?)
At home
At work
Your goal
Example: I have lost 5kg and run 10km (without a break) before December 15th.
Goal Milestones
Ultimate Target: this target might even be beyond your current goal
Example: I have lost 6kg and run 12km without a break.
Intermediate Target
Example: I have lost approximately 1.5kg each month and am adding 2.5km in distance to my runs each month
Must-Hit Target - easy low-bar achievable first milestone
Example: I have lost 3kg and run 7km by November 15th
Current Goal - what are you capable of right now
Example: I have lost 5kg and run 10km without a break.
Section 2
Goal-Setting Quadrant
Visible / Tangible + Me: In other words, you write your desired goals and achievements here
E.g. - Improve my management skills
E.g. - Hit my sales commission goal this year
Visible / Tangible + Other People: In this section, you write how achieving your desired goals benefits other entities or people
E.g. - Our sales team was praised by the CEO for its strong performance this year
E.g. - Company revenue increased by 10% this year
Emotions + Me: How does achieving your desired goals make you feel emotionally?
E.g. - I have a strong sense of accomplishment
E.g. - I feel extremely confident in my sales abilities
Emotions + Other People: How does achieving your desired goals make other people feel?
E.g. - My boss feels proud and happy to have a salesperson like me on the team
E.g. - My team members feel excited to have someone like me on the team
