It's time to dive into "Reality Transurfing"
I think it was probably about 2+ years ago or so when I first heard about the book, “Reality Transurfing.” At the time, I was very active in an entrepreneurship-related Facebook group, and other members would frequently recommend books for newer members in the group. I recall reading a comment thread on one post where one of the more veteran entrepreneurs in the group highly recommended a book called “Reality Transurfing.” I was quite intrigued and curious, especially considering the strange name of the book. I then checked out the book on Amazon and decided to pick up a digital copy and see what this book was all about.
I then proceeded to sit on the book for well over a year. It wasn’t until the end of 2022 (about a year ago now) that I decided to finally start the reading the book. I didn’t finish reading the book until April of this year. You might be wondering why on earth it took me so long to finish reading it.
First of all, Reality Transurfing is a very long (500+ page tome) and dense read. It is not light reading and is not a book that you can just tear through in a week or two. The challenge of reading this book is compounded by threes factors: 1) the book is translated from the original Russian and 2), the author uses many “invented” terms to describe the key concepts of Reality Transurfing and 3), the material covered here is very abstract and esoteric.
After I finished reading Reality Transurfing for the first time, I then spent the next few weeks going through all of my highlights and taking lots and lots of notes, trying to make sense of it all.
Slowly, a clearer picture was starting to form, but I still wasn’t sure how to implement this philosophy and these learnings into my everyday life.
So, I decided to read Reality Transurfing for a second time in June. Again, it took me 2-3 months to get through it all, but the second read was much smoother and by the time I finished, I had a much better understanding of the entire topic.
Now that I’ve read through the book two times, I can confidently say that Reality Transurfing is one of the most important and life-changing books I’ve ever read. It’s completely changed my perspective on reality, seeking goals, positive psychology and my place in society and in this world.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to be happy, live their best life and get what they want out of life, but unfortunately, I think the very nature of this book is going to be polarizing to many readers. As I mentioned previously, the philosophy or model covered is quite abstract and esoteric. Additionally, I suppose critics would say Reality Transurfing dives headfirst into New Age, “woo woo” pseudoscience without much evidence to support that this model actually works. Even as I was reading through the book, there were often moments where I felt quite dubious about what the author was talking about, but at the same time, there was so much in the book that just made sense to me and grounded the philosophy back in reality, especially the parts on positive thinking and psychology. If you’ve ever experienced strange, yet compelling “coincidences” or synchronicities in your life that seemed to defy just pure “chance,” Reality Transurfing will perhaps answer many of your questions.
Reality Transurfing defies condensed summarization, but I will do my best to give you a high-level description:
The author introduces the concept of the "Alternatives Space," an infinite information field containing all possible variations of every moment in your life. Imagine a vast grid of coordinates, each representing a "fork in the road" decision. Your life's trajectory is shaped by the cumulative effect of these left-or-right choices.
Picture hypothetical versions of yourself living different lives – in Hungary, as a successful startup founder, or as a hermit in Alaska. Your current reality is a result of your past choices.
Our lives are a chain of cause-and-effect through the Alternatives Space, deeply influenced by our decisions. The author asserts that we can alter our reality by consciously directing our thoughts and actions. Our thoughts, combined with actions, illuminate different sections of the Alternatives Space, enabling us to navigate towards our desired reality – hence the book's title, "Reality Transurfing."
Obviously, there’s a lot, lot more to it than that, but that should give you a solid understanding of the main concept of the book. I am planning to do a series of articles on the book where I’ll cover the key concepts and talk about how we can make the abstract concrete, and actually start implementing this model in our daily lives.
